Five percent of Indonesia's COVID-19 cases are children: Ministry

There are many victims of Covid-19 from old until young peopel even the children. From the article which the writer read, there are 5% Corona or Covid-19 victims are children under 17-years-old and more than 3.000 children are have been classified under the PDP status. In the middle of this pandemic many country said that they will reopen many places such as office, school, and tourist attraction with some new protocols or many people said “new normal”.

Normally, children's immunity is lower than that of adults," said the ministry's deputy assistant for child protection in emergency situations and pornography, Ciput Eka Purwianti, on Thursday. According to the ministry's preliminary analysis, many children are infected with the virus due to the lack of a clean and healthy lifestyle. The Indonesian Pediatricians Association (IDAI) previously revealed that at least 584 children in Indonesia had tested positive for COVID-19, 14 of whom had died of the disease.

There are some tips which we can do to avoid our children and our family from Covid-19 according to the article which the writer have read :

  • Keep your family home and away from others as much as possible.
  • Avoid other people, especially those who are sick, and busy places until the outbreak is under control. Remember, COVID-19 can spread before a person has symptoms and even when someone has no symptoms.
  • If you need to go out, cloth face masks on adults and kids over 2 years old can help slow the spread of the virus:
  • Do not use a face mask meant for a health care worker because they're needed in hospitals and doctor's offices.
  • To see how to put on and remove masks, clean them, or make your own cloth mask, check the CDC's guide.
  • Try to stay at least 6 feet (2 meters) away from other people.
  • Wash your hands well and often. Wash for at least 20 seconds with soap and water or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Teach your kids to do the same.
  • Try not to touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Use a household cleaner or wipe to clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that people touch a lot.
  • Follow recommendations from your local health authority, especially if there are people with coronavirus in your area.
  • Experts around the world are studying and tracking COVID-19 and are learning how to keep it from spreading.

After I read both of that articles, I have a question to Vinna. My question is :

From the article above, we can know that there are many children are victims of Covid-19. In the other hand the ministry was devising a protocol for implementing the so-called new normal at schools to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus among children. Do you agree when the ministry will reopen the school in the middle of this pandemic with some new protocols or called new normal ? Give me your reason !

Vinna’s Answer :

I agree with the government's decision to reopen schools in the middle of this pandemic. I believe that it would be better for students and teachers to have a normal teaching and learning process. It's because many students and teachers faced plenty of problems, especially in internet connection while having work from home and study from home. However, the decision to reopen schools should be prepared well by the government, teachers, students, and parents. The health protocols should be implemented strictly in school in order to minimize or even stop the spread of coronavirus.
